No doubt Dr. van Zyl was a giant in the motor manufacturing industry. I will, however, remember him fondly for his passion for education, something that he made real in his personal and corporate devotion to improving the education of the poorest communities in South Africa. It was not only his investment in Rands and cents that I saw up close, but his very practical involvement on school sites that we visited together every year. South Africa has lost 'n Onderwys man among many other beautiful attributes of this gentle man.
